Hail to De La Salle

I love watching UAAP games, especially when it comes to basketball. The arena, full of people with their strong cheers, contributes to its adrenaline and intensity. It's popularity is drawn by the drama shown by the players, fans, coaches, officials, and even celebrities watching the game. The best feeling is when your university wins and you're going to show pride by finishing it off with singing the school's Alma Mater. The nine-liner of DLSU's Alma Mater is short but it emphasized how we are proud of St. La Salle, of being a LaSallian. Whenever I sing the Alma Mater after each UAAP game, I often thought how has St. La Salle has influenced our victories.

Saint John Baptist De La Salle, from what I researched, came from a rich and influential family who has risked his wealth and reputation to build education for the masses and training teachers. Now, there's an exciting trait to be proud of being a student of LaSalle, however, is this value instilled by the students? Probably, but how effective is it? In my own experience, frankly, during college, I just focused on getting high grades and understanding the majors of my course. I didn't really understand how the value of St. La Salle works. I know this is disappointing but in reality, how many of us really took the time to reflect on this? Keep the numbers you think to yourself and give time to evaluate.

In my current role, it is expected of us to drive our projects to completion complying with the target date. It came to a point that I only cared how long is a task being accomplished rather than knowing how it is done. Also, I only recognized people who can get the job done in the fastest way rather than giving other people the opportunity on how they can showcase their full potential. Understanding St. La Salle's ways, especially in his great effort to build educators and students, I found it very fulfilling to take time in teaching another the best practices you have for the organization. Listening to the challenges that your colleagues face given that they turned to you for advice, I learned putting myself in his/her shoes and I actually gave time to think of what should I tell this person. As a proud person, I'm not expecting for that person to take my advice however, it would be amazing how one can influence another with the actions he/she took to face a certain challenge. That person may end up acknowledging you for the thought you have shared. In that way, your reputation in value is built and your credibility is raised.
